Sometimes you might want to block a specific country from access your website. This might be that your content is specifically for one country and that you do not want other countries using up all your bandwidth. For example a local community information site in the UK has no need to supply information to Latvia and many users/sites in Latvia might be linking to information on your site using up your monthly bandwidth allowance.
Using the following site http://www.countryipblocks.net/country-blocks/select-formats/ you can generate the information required to create a .htaccess file which will block the country/countries you wish to stop.
You might just want to allow your own country access to your site and so you could deny all countries apart from yours.
Please be aware that IP ranges for countries do change from time to time so you need to keep the .htaccess file updated.
